# KlipKlip

> A sticker and GIF maker for Android. Everything is rendered and encoded on
> the phone — subject cut-out, animation, and the WebP encoder itself — so a
> sticker can be made with no network at all. Built for Malaysia and Indonesia.

KlipKlip turns a photo, a video clip or a line of text into a WhatsApp sticker
or a GIF, and packages stickers into installable WhatsApp packs.

## What it does

- Cuts the subject out of a photo or clip automatically, with a manual erase
  brush for when the segmenter is wrong.
- Fourteen text styles with outline, extrude and glow, in nine bundled faces.
  Jawi text lays out right-to-left and animates by word rather than by glyph.
- Speech bubbles, decorative frames, particle effects and mesh motion rigs.
- Exports a 512x512 animated WebP sticker, or a GIF at 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 16:9
  or 9:16.
- Builds WhatsApp sticker packs and installs them directly.
- Publishes work to a public page that anyone can open from a chat.

## Notable technical points

- Animated WebP is encoded ON DEVICE via libwebp through the NDK. Android has
  a decoder for animated WebP but no encoder, which is normally why apps of
  this kind require a server.
- The server moves JSON, not media. Clip search proxies a provider so the API
  key is not shipped inside the APK; the phone fetches the media itself.
